Magic Bites- Kate Daniels Book 1- Ilona Andrews

Title: Magic Bites
Author: Ilona Andrews
Publisher: Ace
Edition:Hard Copy
Source: Library

Goodreads Synopsis:

When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate's guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta's magic circles.

The Masters of the Dead, necromancers who can control vampires, and the Pack, a paramilitary clan of shapechangers, blame each other for a series of bizarre killings—and the death of Kate's guardian may be part of the same mystery. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she's way out of her league—but she wouldn't have it any other way

My Thoughts:

Let me just preface this by saying that this is one of my favorite books I have ever read. Trust me, that is no easy feat. This book has badass Kate Daniels. She is out to find the killer of her guardian. She starts her investigation a little on the shaky side, but oh boy does she get going fast. One thing I love about this book is that it takes conventional ideas of the supernatural out back and bludgeons them to death with a blunt object. I love it. Everything you think you know about supes is turned upside down. The heroine is this novel is sort of like an anti-hero—she is tough, hard, and she will kick ass to get done what needs to be done. Did I mention that there is a super hot were-lion named Curren in this? Well there is. He is also badass. He doesn’t take crap from anyone, not even Kate—so when Kate asks for his help, she gets a lot more than she bargained for with this kitty.Curren is a takes-no-crap king of beasts, and he won't take crap from Kate. Kate makes NO apologies and their rapport is tangible.

This is a MUST read if you love books that don’t sparkle, fluff, or make you weepy.
